Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (born 26 February 1954) is a Turkish politician, the country's president since 2014 and prime minister between 2003 and 2013. He wields a disproportionate amount of influence over the European Union and mainly Germany - he recently had a German comedian arrested in Germany for making a skit mocking Erdoğan. It has been said that he wants to resurrect the Ottoman Empire of yore.

He is also known for such acts as building a presidential palace on protected national parkland and suppressing anti-Erdogan protests in the Turkish media: for example, CNN Turk showed a documentary on penguins while at the same time, international CNN covered the riots.

On the 27th of December 2016, Erdoğan stated that the U.S. is helping ISIL, and that Turkey has the pictures and videos to prove it, even though they have yet to be released.[1]

On 29 April 2017, Wikipedia was banned in Turkey after Erdogan's English-language article was defaced to show a cockroach in the information box at the top of the page.
